Hands Series

Many artists over the centuries have limited themselves in some way, in order to push boundaries and innovation in their own artistic practice. Artists like Picasso and Whistler often limited their palette in order to focus on purely compositional aspirations. In my series of hands, I aspire to do the same. By removing the question of the subject, I am forced to make more interesting choices artistically and push myself to invest in the qualities of art that I truly enjoy. I have to continue to expand and develop my abilities in order to keep viewers interested. The subject of the hand is a means to an end in this series. If a viewer knows ahead of time what the painting will be of, what can I do, as an artist, to bring them in anyway.
