Artist’s Statement
My work is currently focused on expressing shape and form through the three-dimensional application of paint. I look to painters like Edouard Vuillard and Cuno Amiet for guidance in my practice. The decorative qualities they give to paint in their compositions draws me back to them again and again for inspiration, and I often find myself looking to them and their contemporaries when I work through problems. Movements like Les Nabis and Viennese Secessionism both inspire the way I work. Along with highly decorative painting traditions like these, I also take inspiration from traditional craft media, particularly European stained glass, and contemporary American textile work and fiber arts.
